Discharge from the Department of Urology

You are now ready for discharge

If you are a resident of Denmark, we will send your physician a description of why you were hospitalized and the treatment.

 

You can see your e-journal at Sundhed.dk

 

In case you need a new drug, the urologist will send a prescription to the pharmacy.

 

Please pay close attention!

You may contact the department of urology within the first 24 hours following discharge if you experience:

  • Unable to urinate
  • Catheter blockage
  • Excessive blood in the urine
  • Unbearable pain
  • Fever (temperature above 38° Celsius)

 

Pain

You may experience some pain a few days after surgery.

We recommend you to have paracetamol at home.

 

If you experience pain in the bladder while urinating, it might be an infection in the bladder. We recommend you to drink well. If the pain continues, please contact your physician.

 

Aids

In case you have a temporally need for catheters, catheter bags, bandages or other aids, please contact the staff at the department of urology.

 

 

Wounds after surgery

The surgical dressing/bandage should be removed 24 hours after surgery. Air is good for the wound unless there is a discharge put a new dressing/bandage on the wound.

 

The wound can be sown with dissolvable stitches. If the wound is closed by clips please make an appointment with your physician to have them removed 8-10 days after surgery.

 

You can take showers but do not bathe or go in a pool until the wound is healed, i.e around 14 days after surgery.

 

If you notice any of the following signs, see your physician as soon as possible for infected wound treatment.

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Yellow- colored discharge
  • Continual or increased pain
  • The incision area is hot to touch
