Alongside developing specialist treatments, research and training, there are many other activities within the walls of OUH.
Electronic medical records – a system for doctors and medical auxiliaries I
n the summer of 2007, the hospital’s electronic medical record system was rolled out in all of the hospital’s clinical departments. It is expected that the process will be complete by the summer of 2009. OUH’s electronic solution is the only system in Denmark which uses recognized international standards. It is a collective solution which makes work easier for both doctors and medical auxiliaries. Users can navigate the system modules without having to log in and out and solutions can be tailored to suit individual departments. This is in direct support of OUH’s goal to enable doctors and auxiliaries to work within a single system.
Digital X-ray images – RIS/PACS
By the end of 2007, OUH will be using the socalled PACS/RIS system for digital management of x-ray images. The system can be used to transmit radiographic images between all the hospitals in the region, and for the electronic storage of the images. In future it will be possible to access an x-ray whenever and wherever it is needed. Sending photographs between departments will no longer be necessary, and pinning the images on display screens will be a thing of the past.
Cooperation across countries
There are many instances of OUH looking abroad for inspiration and cooperative partnerships. The university hospital has instigated cooperation with another university hospital in Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein. The two institutions found common fields of work, including stem cell therapy and oncology.

The largest lean project in the public sector Three departments (Radiology, Orthopaedic Surgery and Cardiac and Vascular Medicine) took part in pilot projects and quickly came up with several results. |
By rethinking methods of working and using modern technology, the departments achieved three important objectives: economic savings, improvement of conditions for patients and an enhancement of morale, with less stress for employees. Besides the three clinical departments, the purchasing department also took part in the Lean pilot project. They attained savings of a two-figure million crown amount yearly. The roll-out of lean to the whole hospital went into effect in the autumn of 2007. |
